Why patients choose dental bridges to replace missing teeth
Replacing missing teeth needs to be completed as soon as possible to avoid certain complications, such as shifting teeth or bone loss. Dr. Colleen Williamson and her team at Grand Dental Arts in Toms River, New Jersey, can evaluate patients to determine the best tooth-replacement option right for their needs. With the help of our team, patients can repair their smiles with options such as dentures, dental bridges, and dental implants. Dental bridges are a popular choice for many of our patients for a good reason!
What is a dental bridge?
A dental bridge is a restoration used to restore one or more missing teeth. The dental bridge is created using an artificial tooth (or pontic) attached to crowned abutments on either side. This type of tooth replacement is usually recommended for patients missing one or two teeth in a row.
What are the advantages of a dental bridge?
There are many benefits to choosing a dental bridge as your tooth replacement option, which include:
- Preserving your natural smile
- Maintaining the proper function of your bite
- Preventing your remaining teeth from shifting out of place
- Restoring chewing and speaking functions
What is the process for getting a dental bridge?
The process for getting a dental bridge usually takes place over the course of two visits to Grand Dental Arts. During your first visit, Dr. Williamson will take impressions of your teeth to create a customized dental bridge. We will also place temporary crowns on the abutment teeth.
On your second visit, we remove the temporary crowns and check to make sure that the fit of your new bridge is comfortable. Once we are confident that everything looks good, we will bond the porcelain dental bridge in place.
